Annual General Meeting -Monday 23rd Sept 2013

 

It was very encouraging to have the support from members on the night and especially encouraging that we had a couple of new parents from Reception come along too. I appreciate that the day & time of the AGM wasn’t convenient to everyone, so I hope that these notes help keep you all in the loop.

Deputy Chair - Lorraine Norcross

Deputy Treasurer - Lesley Mellis

Treasurer - Mark Rotheram will continue as Treasurer

 

 

TREASURER’S REPORT 2012/2013

This was another successful year resulting in a net increase in funds of £4,719.66 excluding contributions to the school.

 

In 2012/13 the school purchased 7 visualisers at a cost of £1,207.50 from the Friends of Whitefield funds.

 

A net ‘profit’ of £4,782.83 was generated from fundraising events in 2012/13. Whilst this was a reduction of £1700.23 from 2011/12 this is purely down to the fact that £1,742.39 was raised via the bunny hop in 2011/12.

 

As at the 31st August 2013 the carry forward balance stands at £10,645.35.

 

 

PROPOSED SPENDING

We are in a wonderful position of having such a healthy bank balance, and definitely need to put that money to good use. Ms Clough fed back the ideas for spending:

  • 15 iPad minis – to add to the current set of 6
  • Wireless computer mice
  • Reading books for the library

 

There were a few additional suggestions for consideration:

  • Expandable gazebos to replace the current old style and broken ones – far easier set up and clear up for events like the summer fair.
  • A tug of war rope
  • Camera for taking photos at FoW events. This will make it far easier to track photos so parental permissions are strictly followed and hopefully remind us to take a few photos at everything we do in the future.
  • FoW T-shirts to help identify team members at events. This will make it easier for children, and volunteers, to know who to ask for help.

 

 

 

 

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

As always, we rely on parent volunteers for our events to run smoothly & safely. So if you are able to spare any time to help at any of the following events please get in touch

 

School Disco on Thurs 24th Oct (KS1 at 6.30pm & KS2 at 7.30pm). I’ve had a few offers of help, but definitely need more people to man the doors, sell sweets and glow sticks. So if you can spare some time, at either or both sessions, please get in touch.

 

Community Cinema on Tues 12th Nov (From 3.30pm).

The film choice this time was either ‘Smurfs 2’ or ‘Disney’s Planes’. After asking a selection of parents ‘Planes’ was the clear favourite. It is rated ‘U’.

 

It’s great fun to see all the children (and adults) enjoying a cinema afternoon together. I know it can be an awkward time for many, but if you are free to help sell sweets or man doors we would really appreciate it.

 

Wrapping Night Drop-in - Mon 25th Nov  (from 5pm)

We get together to wrap all the presents for December’s ‘Secrets’ Room’ (6th Dec). All materials are provided, as well as delicious treats. So please feel free to drop in and join the wrapping fun.

 

Secrets’ Room – Fri 6th Dec (All Day in School)

Children can buy tickets and then choose a Christmas present/s for Mum, Dad or any other special adult. Chosen gifts are wrapped to keep the surprise, and then given back to children in the last week of term to take home and put under their tree.

 

Prior to the event we need help to decorate the room to make it feel festive for the children. Then on the day we’ll need volunteers to help children choose their gifts. So please consider helping out, even if it’s just for an hour or two.

 

PLANNED EVENTS FOR 2013/2014

We quickly ran through events for the coming year (list included below).

 

Please note:

  • There will be no Christmas Fair this year
  • Meet Santa will be co-ordinated by the School this year (details tbc)
  • Wear What You Want day in November – As there is no Christmas Fair, the donations from WWYW will go towards making up hampers that will be raffled off during the Christmas productions week.
  • We have a couple of new ‘adult only’ events planned  - the Quiz & Curry Night in February and the May Ball - exact details coming soon.

RAFFLE & AUCTION PRIZES

As mentioned above, we intend to raffle off hampers during the Christmas productions week, and raise money through auction prizes at the May Ball. Obviously we need items to include in the hampers and auction, so if you have any ideas, suggestions or contacts we would love to hear from you.

 

 

ANY OTHER BUSINESS

 

School Council

We have asked that when deciding which charities the school will be supporting this year, that they consider The Katy Holmes Trust (http://www.katyholmestrust.co.uk/) and The Millie’s Trust (http://www.milliestrust.com/).

 

School council will also be asked to produce a logo for the Friends of Whitefield.
