16 April 2015
Welcome back everyone! I hope you all had a lovely break and managed some rest and relaxation. I heard there may even have been some sunshine in Penwortham in the 2nd week; I missed that in rainy and windy Holland.
The children looked so smart on Monday - all smiling and happy to be back! Remember, the children can wear their summer uniform this term.
We have a busy summer term ahead and today has been particularly exciting as we have been awaiting our numbers for our new Reception children in September. We currently have 53 children due to join us in September and I expect that number will increase as we move through the term.
Year group newsletters will be coming out to you next week so make sure you check your emails or the website.
Many thanks to all the parents who contributed to the vision of Whitefield board at parents' evening or who emailed in their thoughts. We have collated everything and linked them to the governor and staff vision. We will be speaking to the children during this half term too. I particularly wanted to thank the parent who wrote about the website not being accessible through our i-phones. I chose the web company because they assured me the website could be used on all technology. We can actually see the site - but we can't open any documents, as I realised when I tried to pull off a document at home on my ipad. So thank you, whoever you are. I have the website man in next week to hopefully sort that.
I am pleased to announce that I acheived my aim of not eating chocolate for lent! And I have had very little since. As a result I will be donating food to the Penwortham Food Bank which will total of £30. I have not, however, noticed any physical impact of this chocolate abstinence probably beacuse I have lived off jammie dodgers throughout the lent period.
I now need to check up on Mrs Kimberley and see how she got on with giving up crisps for lent...
A new date for your diary - St Mary's Church in Penwortham will be lighting their beacon on top of the church tower at Sunset (8.34pm) on Friday 8th May to mark the 70th anniversary of Victory in Europe. All are welcome to come along.
Some things to note in the immediate couple of weeks:
Year 6 families - don't forget Saturday school this Saturday and the following. Foster, Mole and Robson Catering will be open for business from 8.30am.
Friends of Whitefield meeting - we are meeting next Wednesday 22nd April in the Brown Hare at 5pm to plan the summer fair. Please come along if you can. If you can't make it but have some ideas or know of someone who would like to be part of the event, let us know through bursar@whitefield-pri.lancs.sch.uk. For those families who are new to Whitefield this year, this is our biggest event in the calendar and it promises to be as brilliant as it has been for the last couple of years!
Football semi-finals - we are still awaiting the date so will let the boys know and all of you when we get that information. The new football kits should be with us by the end of this week. HUGE thanks to Mr Lee for sponsoring the kits and thanks to Josh and Charlie for picking out the strip!
Wear What You Want Day - this has been a late addition to the diary. We are having a WWYW day on Friday 24th April (next Friday) and are asking for donations of veg seeds, plants and flower seeds so we can get the allotments up and running this term. We have killed off all the weeds over the holidays and had the allotments rotivated and Mrs Bushell will be working with the children throughout the coming term. We are also hoping to enter the Penwortham in Bloom School category this year so all donations welcomed and appreciated.
And don't forget, Monday 4th May is Bank Holiday and we are closed the Thursday of the same week for the election as we are being used as a polling station.
