It was a brilliant turnout for the annual book fair last week.  Mrs Allan, who organises the event every year, has asked me to send out this message:

‘Many thanks to all those who supported the book fair last week. The Fair was very successful and school will benefit from many books earned with our commission.  A big thank you to those families who kindly donated books from the wish lists. These books will be presented to the children and the classes in assembly.  Also a special thank you to those people who generously gave up their time to help at the book fair. Without their help the book fair could not have taken place.’

And without the help of Mrs Allan, the book fair could not take place – thank you Mrs Allan!

And what an amazing event on Friday for Children in Need!  School raised the most ever with £659.97 from your £1 donations but also a huge amount of £294.27 was raised by the Year 5 children who put on a craft and bake sale.  Huge thanks to Mrs Gohil who helped get everything organised and the children of BOLA who helped to make some of the items sold.

There’s been some rather tremendous football going on in our competitions over the last few weeks. Whitefield FC became champions of the South Ribble borough this week and move forward to the Lancashire County Finals in 2018.

Whitefield FC will also be progressing in the Blackburn Cup with the aim of Wembley in their sights!

It has been a long time since we have achieved so much success with our competitive teams and I am extremely proud of all the Whitefield footballers (FC, Rangers and Wanderers) who are representing school at all the competitions. There is a real buzz in school about it. Should I start looking for a bigger trophy cabinet?

And the feedback I am getting from the staff (Mr Huntington, Mr Ginty and Mr Birchall) is that all the family and friends support that is being given at home and on the sidelines makes these events even more special. So thank you all too.

It seems so long ago, but you may recall before summer Mrs Smith set the children a 30 days of Summer Reading Challenge. Well, she received some fantastic entries and yesterday each child was able to choose a book from the book fair library as a reward for doing so well.

Thank you to all the parents who helped make the Community Cinema event such a great success. Brilliant organisation Amy Holden!  I did get a bit of itchy tummy as it was those pesky Minions (they really make my tummy itch) but I could see all the children (and the adults) loved it.  Thank you Friends of Whitefield – you are such an asset to our school.

The Whitefield Choir are hoping to attend a special event on Wednesday 29th December at The Guild Hall – currently we do not have enough slips back to attend so please let Mrs Halalat and/or Mrs Williams know if your child can make it. (We realise it has been short notice!)

Finally, the Christmas period is approaching rather fast – the annual Christmas newsletter should be winging its way to you today!  You’ve had the dates already but this is a good reminder and also gives information on ticket requests.

And information regarding our Christmas charity collection will be coming out today too – so lots of weekend reading and planning to do!
