It's been a busy week in school, hindered by electric fuses blowing and boilers packing up.  Fingers crossed though all is now sorted. Again, many thanks to you all for being so understanding.

Amidst the madness, we had a fantastic day on Friday - it was our Superheroes Day where we raised money for the Katy Holmes charity. We raised an amazing £311 and are delighted that the Friends of Whitefield will be match funding this amount.  The LEP are running an article on the day, hopefully in tonight's paper.

We also used the day to launch our Reason to Write project, where the children will be writing different genres to perform or produce outcomes over the next eight weeks. Some are launching a website, some are writing and performing a soap opera and some are publishing a book.  Friday was very odd...I was talking to the children about my Headteacher superpowers of mind control and lazer eyes when I was interrupted by Iron Man who said a green man had delivered an envelope to school. In the envelope was a riddle, and all the teachers were given a box that they have yet to open...They will open it with the children on Monday afternoon... We will keep you updated on the contents of the boxes, our work and photos are on our website regularly.

As a follow up to superhero day, I realised my work would be much easier if I had a superhero sidekick. So I am awaiting applications from any child who thinks they will make a good superhero sidekick (I have three applications already).  They must not have worked as a sidekick for any other evil henchmen in the Penwortham area, and must be able to wear sidekick tights and say 'Kerpow' with enthusiasm.  The closing date for applications is Monday 2nd February.

In other news, don't forget Year 2 families, it's the SEAL assembly on Friday 23rd January (tomorrow). Come to school for 2.20pm, the assembly starts at 2.30pm and then you will be invited to the classrooms to do some activities with the children.
