Image of Mrs Foster's News (sorry it's late!)

Belated news this week, and apologies for that. I was hit with a bug last week that resulted in me having no appetitie and not eating for two days. But fear not, I didn't waste away and am now back fighting fit.

Lots to report this week, so please read to the end!

I have had some complaints from residents recently about parents parking across their driveways so they can not get their cars in or out - please be respectful of our local residents and park sensibly. Last week I drove out of school at 8.50am to attend a meeting, around school it was very busy with cars parked on corners etc but when I reached Whitefield Road there was plenty of space to safely park and walk along to school. I am at times agog when cars do five point turns in driveways whilst our children try to cross the road - your child is no doubt safe as you have dropped them off in the school driveway or on the zig zag lines but I have stopped a few cars recently who have reversed in to the path of a child. PLEASE think about the safety of ALL our children.

There has been some fantastic things going on in school in the last few weeks.  We had a visit from Fiona from UCLAN on Monday who talked to the children about Chinese New Year.
Miss King reported a fabulous year 3 Seal assembly on Friday. Well done year 3 and thanks to all of you who were able to come and support the children.
Last week, we invited the Year 6 children to our staff meeting to discuss social media and internet usage - there are so many things we didn't know! Thank you to all the parents for allowing your children to teach us - their information will help us to plan our computing curriculum in more depth and also feed our e-safety policy.  We will be reporting our findings after half term.

We have also had some tired children in school in the last few weeks.  A group of children have been performing in the pantomime Beauty and the Beast at St Andrew's Church in Longton - well done to Freya Wilkinson, Amber Sumner, Scarlett Sumner, Toby Oakley and Adam Oakley!
And over the half term, Darcey Allison will be performing as Tinkerbell in Peter Pan at the Guild Hall in Preston - good luck Darcey!

We welcomed back Mr Boyd our site supervisor on Monday who has been off for fours weeks. We've missed him and are delighted to hear him chortling around school!  And on Wednesday, Miss Woodworth will return to her Reception class. We thank Miss Corkhill for holding the fort in her absence.

A few things to note for this week:
It is our Friends of Whitefield disco on Thursday- we are really desperate for some extra people to help at the key stage 2 disco which starts at 7.30pm.  So come along and help us serve the sweets and have a boogie while you are at it. It's the best Thursday night out in town!

On Friday we are having 'Wear What You Want Day' to raise money for one of the school council charities HCPT - this is the charity that Miss Ashcroft is linked to. They raise money to take children with disabilities to Lourdes and this Easter Miss Ashcroft and her sister will be travelling with a group of children. Miss Ashcroft will be talking to the children about it on Thursday in assembly.

Look out for news when we return from half term about the school council's plans for Red Nose Day!  I have heard mention of painting your face funny for money and a bake sale....

As we finish for half term, we launch our Extreme Reading project in school! For world book day in March, we are going to be looking at places where we can enjoy a good read - Mr Huntington is going to read and ski this half term, I am going to see the lions at Blackpool Zoo and read them a story, Ms Garry is having her hair done so will no doubt be reading in the hairdressers. Can you find some extreme places to read? Take photos if you do and send them in to bursar@whitefield-pri.lancs.sch.uk and we will put them on the website.

Have a lovely half term whatever you choose to do. We will be celebrating Milly's 8th birthday. I can't believe I am writing that; it seems like two minutes ago I was telling you all about plans for her 3rd birthday. Eight girls at our house for a pyjama party. Wish me luck....
